How it works

How it works

Five steps, starting with what you can actually show a lender.

See if you qualify →No credit check to enquire

The quickest way to a loan that fits is to match your paperwork to the right lender before anyone applies. Here's what happens once you enquire, and what you can do at each stage to keep things moving.

  1. 1

    1. Tell us what you need and what you can show

The amount, what it's for, how the business is set up and where your GST and income tax returns are up to. It takes about a minute, and asking won't mark your credit file.

  2. 2

    2. A real person reads it and calls you

Someone who works on New Zealand business lending every day reads your enquiry properly, then phones to fill any gaps and agree which paperwork level fits.

  3. 3

    3. We tell you exactly what to gather

You get a short, specific list: which bank statements, which GST periods, whether an income declaration or accountant's letter will help, and what's needed for any property or equipment.

  4. 4

    4. One lender, matched to your evidence

Your application goes to a lender whose rules suit your paperwork, rather than to several at once. That protects your credit file and avoids declines that didn't need to happen.

  5. 5

    5. Offer, sign and settle

You review the offer, including every fee, guarantee and PPSR registration, and sign if you're comfortable. Funds go to your account, the seller, IRD or another lender as agreed.

Working out your paperwork level

On the first call we'll agree which of four levels suits you: full doc, bank statement, low doc or property-backed. For vehicles and machinery, equipment finance often needs the least paperwork of all. If you'd like to see your likely level first, try the document checklist builder.

What we don't do

  • We don't publish interest rates or "from" figures.
  • We don't send your details to a panel of lenders.
  • We don't tell you your paperwork is fine when it isn't. If something needs fixing first, we'll say so.

Common questions

Does asking affect my credit file?

No. There's no credit check when you first enquire. A check only happens once you choose to apply with a specific lender.

Will my details go to lots of lenders?

No. One person works on your enquiry and approaches the lender that fits. Your details aren't passed down a list.

What if my returns are behind?

Tell us. Many options still work, especially with current GST. We'll also tell you which overdue returns are worth filing first.

Do I need an accountant?

Not always. For low doc lending, an accountant's letter can help, and for larger or property-backed loans an accountant is useful, but many applications go ahead without one.

How accurate does the form need to be?

As accurate as you can make it. The paperwork level and lender we start with depend on your answers, so honest details save time.
